Owen M. “Jack” Davenport, 95-year-old lifelong Centralia resident, passed away February 6th, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
Jack was born on October 5th, 1926, in Medford, Oklahoma to Orville M and Leda (McVay) Davenport. He attended school in Centralia and was drafted during his senior year. After serving his country for two years, he returned home, graduating from Centralia School in 1947.
On November 14th, 1947, he married the love of his life, Lola “Fay” Langley. Jack and Fay lived in Centralia for all 72 years of their marriage.
Jack was a lifelong farmer. He also owned and operated a dairy farm for over 20 years. After selling his dairy cows, he continued farming and began raising beef cattle.
He loved farming and growing plants of any kind. After he semi-retired, he turned his focus on planting large vegetable gardens. His gardens were always well known and when vegetables were ready to be harvested, he expected his family to be all hands-on deck! Great family time was spent harvesting his gardens and many people enjoyed the bounty from his green thumb.
Jack enjoyed fishing and hunting and especially beating his son at horseshoes. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Leda Davenport, his wife Fay Davenport, two brothers: Duane and Danny Davenport and three sisters: Jane Livingston, Thelma Girty, and Orvella Moody. Survivors include his children-two daughters: Lois and husband Bud of Collinsville, Anita Taylor and husband Darrell of Vinita, and son David Davenport and wife Debbie of Vinita; five grandchildren: Justin Taylor and wife Brenda, Shon Taylor and wife Joy, Sheila Beavers and husband Ricky, Cory Davenport, and Melissa Allensworth, and ten great-grandchildren.
