Mitzi Kathleen Smith
May 29th, 1951- August 2nd, 2023.
Mitzi came screaming into this world on May 29th, 1952, to Robert G. And Della Mae Smith, in Vinita Oklahoma at the old Vinita Hospital.
She was born breech and (according to her brother) remained that way her entire life.
She attended Cobb School, Vinita Schools and went on to attend Cosmetology school in Vinita as well.
Mitzi had one Child, a daughter, Nancy Ann Smith who preceded her in death.
Mitzi was a very talented artist.
She could do most anything she put her mind to.
She was as wild as the wind.
She adored Turquoise and Silver Jewelry, and anything leather and beaded.
If something could be collected, she collected it. If something would fit in a tiny box, bottle, or bag, that was its new home. She loved dream catchers and had quite the collection.
Mitzi was 1/2 Cherokee and proud of her heritage. She branded anything that would hold still long enough with the letters NDN and once it was Branded, it belonged to her.
She was a keeper of all things small. Be it a button, bead, bobble, rock, necklace, earring, belt buckle, sticker, stick pin, etc... every single little shiny thing had a home with her.
She always carried a giant purse. If anyone ever needed something, she either had it in her bag or could fashion it from the items inside her bag.
Mitzi was known by many for her larger-than-life personality. She had many friends.
She was a force to be reckoned with and wherever NDN souls go when they leave this world, that's where Mitzi is now. You can bet your bippy that she slid in there sideways, with a war cry and a smile and is hanging chochkies, beads, bent spoons and doilies in all of the windows.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and her daughter Nancy.
She is survived by her brother Steven G. Smith (Sonnie)of Vinita, Niece Stephanie Brown (Joe) Vinita, Matthew Smith (Sarah) Grove, a very special Great Niece Shelby Smith Heffelman who cared for her for a time in her later years in the facility where she resided until the time of her death, many more nieces and nephews and many more friends and extended family.
