Luann Batchelor

May 27, 1953 – December 25, 2021

Luann Batchelor was born on May 27, 1953 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and was the second beloved child of Donald and Patricia Batchelor. She passed away peacefully on December 25, 2021 as she held her stuffed puppy and listened to The Christmas Story movie playing in the background. In her final days, she was cared for by the loving hands of staff at the Clarehouse in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Luann was a bright light with eyes that sparkled, a laugh that brought joy to all around her, and a smile that lit up the room! As a child, she attended school in the Oklahoma City area and moved to Vinita when she was eighteen years old to become one of the first residents at the Home of Hope.  For the next forty-nine years, the amazing Home of Hope was her second family and provided her with the most loving care, close friendships, and countless opportunities to thrive, such as singing with the High Hopes and competing with the Special Olympics.

Through her humor, she made us laugh - whether she was calling us “ornery” or giving us that look when she thought we were being too silly. She was very observant and closely connected to those around her. If you wanted to know anything about what was going on with the people in her life or at the group homes, Lu was the one to ask! She had a very strong work ethic and took a lot of pride in working hard. She also loved vacations – particularly if she was heading up to Branson.

Lu was, and will always be, loved beyond measure. Her late big brother Chris cared for his little sister deeply and there was nothing her mother and late father would not do for her. They provided her with joy, comfort, and connection throughout her life - whether it was taking her out to dinner for her favorite meal or her birthday parties, or bringing her to Shangri-La where she enjoyed independent time as she walked along the lake. She was always welcomed home where she enjoyed the best home cooking, shopping, or “watching her shows.”

Our sweet Lu is survived by her mother Patricia Batchelor, her sister-in-law Cydney Strickland, her aunts Bonnie Batchelor and Polly Batchelor, her nieces Brooke Whistler, Coleen Henderson, Tracy Butler, and their families. She was preceded in passing by family and friends she has missed dearly, including her father Donald Batchelor and brother Christopher Batchelor. In the sadness of her death, we find joy and peace in knowing Lu can be with them again.
