Joshua Mease

Joshua Austin Mease, 27 went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 22, 2020. He was born April 13, 1993 in Grove, Oklahoma to his parents Rebecca Mease of Grove, OK and Darrell Mease of Jay, OK.  Josh was a student at Northeastern State University - Tahlequah and was a lifelong resident of Grove, OK. Josh graduated with honors from Grove High School with the class of 2012. Josh was to graduate from NSU in May 2021 with a Bachelors of Science in psychology accompanied by two minors in chemistry and business.

Joshua Austin came into this world a “hard to watch and curious child,” often wandering off and going up to most estranged people he could find and asking them questions like “why do you have so many piercings?” His fearlessness was also a constant concern to his family as he was not afraid of heights, water, or trying to eat everything he laid eyes on.

After surviving being a toddler, Josh’s days were very busy trying to tag along with his older brother Robert (Robby) and cousins trying to learn important life lessons like “how to make common fireworks blow a crater in the ground so big the police pay you a visit.” Even though his older brother's friends duck taped him to various things every once in a while, his charismatic nature and athletic ability won them over. He was able to talk his way out of almost anything through his love for storytelling. After Josh learned to skateboard and wake-skate, he was then deemed “cool” and given various nicknames by Robby’s friends and is known to this day are as follows: “Little Mease,” “Squash,” “Mini Meash,” and of course “Joshie.”

As Josh grew, he became more versatile in everything he tried. To his friends he was known as a “do it all” kind of person that was determined to excel at sports, academics, and in the mosh pit. Josh’s attitude is noted by his fellow teammates as an “all around positive person” and “an annoying leader” by his coaches, as he was known to motivate his team to break out into song despite his coaches’ wishes. One song in particular mentioned by various sources was “If It Means a Lot to You” by A Day To Remember.

Josh’s curiosity never slowed with academics either. He developed an interest in science, began to compete, and furthermore win. His peers say Josh’s victories were due to “his charisma and beautiful hair.” This charm and wit led him to travel to numerous places around the country including San Jose, California; Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Washington DC. Josh didn’t know it at the time, but his success in science would lead him to later be awarded the Gates Millennium Scholarship that would open the door for his college education.

Josh was also proud of his Cherokee heritage, in college he joined Phi Sigma Nu and was honorably added to their memorial book this week. As he continued his journey throughout life and college, he never cut his hair, and formed the beautiful locks we all know and love today.

He held a special place in his heart for his family and friends, which were a high priority for Josh. Josh treasured his relationship with his immediate family and was regularly checking in on their well being. He was lovingly protective of those close to his heart. Josh had a host of friends that were near and dear to him, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving Josh are his parents, Becky Mease and Darrell Mease. He is also survived by brother Robby Mease and Robby's fiancée Samantha Richmond and half sister Pyper Mease. He will be survived by a number of loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lois “Boots” and Bud Earp, and paternal grandparents Patricia and Robert Mease.

Visitation will be December 29, 2020 from 5-7 pm at Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove OK. Funeral services will be held on December 30, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Mount Hermon Church in Jay, Ok, with Pastor Gary Bishop and Derek Crawford officiating. Services are under the direction of Worley Luginbuel in Grove, Oklahoma.
