James Arthur Patrick, 84-year-old longtime Vinita area resident, passed away March 13, 2024, at home. He was born November 23, 1939, in Fairland, Oklahoma to William Gordon and Lenora (Matthews) Patrick. He married Julia Kapp October 7, 1960, at the First United Methodist Church in Vinita. They were married until her passing January 11, 2003. He then married Tammy Fincher on March 17, 2004, at Cowboy Junction Church in Vinita, Oklahoma.
Jim attended Northeastern State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in education. He worked for many years as a teacher and coach. He coached girls’ basketball as well as football at Welch, Bluejacket, and other area schools. He retired from Eastern State Hospital as the Recreational Therapist. In his younger years, he was an avid quail hunter and team roper. He was a great storyteller and a genuinely smart man. One of his favorite past times was watching Jeopardy to see if he could answer the questions correctly before the contestants.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Tammy, of the home; children, John Patrick and wife, Angela, of Monument, Colorado, Joni McMillan of Royse City, Texas; step-children, Jerod Fincher and wife, Lucy, of Vinita, Ashley Drawer of Vinita, Della Barrow and husband, Marcus, of South Carolina, and Zoe Schumacher and husband, Dylan, of Vinita; grandchildren Elliott, Abby, Julia, and Bennett; step-grandchildren Tristian, Aniston, Sonja, Silvia, Adilyn, Aurora, Betty, Seven, and Jaharha; and sister, Margaret Randolph and husband, Dick, of Grand Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deborah Lee Patrick; and first wife, Julia Patrick.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jerod Fincher officiating.
