Jackson Nichols

June 8th 2022, high noon, Jackson David Nichols, saddled up to reunite with the Lord and his bride, Doris Jean. Jack was born the youngest of seven, February 15th, 1933 to Benjamin Nichols and Lillie Mae (Estes) Nichols in Lone Grove, OK. He graduated from Springer High School in 1950 and made the best decision of his life by marrying Doris Jean Pickett on June 22. 1952. He served in the Army at Ft. Sill in Lawton during the Korean war and then was a teller at the Exchange National Bank in Ardmore and then moved to Security National Bank in Sapulpa. After being offered a Vice-President position at First National Bank in Vinita, Jack and Doris moved with their three daughters, Karen, Cindy, and Tammie, to make their home in Vinita. When he retired from the bank in 1989 as CEO and Chairman of the Board, he aspired to focus on his passions. Jack's first passion was his family and coming up the rail was his love for racehorses. Between quarter horses and thoroughbreds, he won several races but lost even more. He was a President of the Sapulpa Jaycees, American Legion, President of the Vinita Chamber of Commerce, Vinita Industrial Foundation, he served as President on the Board of Education for 8 years, and was a Rotarian for more than 50 years. In 1989, he was chosen by the Vinita Chamber of Commerce as the Outstanding Citizen of the year. His most prized membership, of course, was the one he held at home with Doris, his girls, and later his grand and great-grandkids. Papa Jack was a big hit with kids because he still was one himself. His grandkids brought out his soft, sentimental side that was seldom seen before them.

Preceding Jack in death was his wife Doris, parents, Benjamin and Lillie Mae Nichols, siblings, Byron Nichols, Clotilde “Sis” Fitch, Vester “Red” Nichols, Leon Nichols, and Roberta “Nicki” Hensley.

Survivors include his 3 daughters, his girls, Karen Postelwait and her husband Gary, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Cindy Millikan of Vinita, Tammie Tway, and husband Bob, of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren, Jeff Postelwait, Blake Postelwait, Nicole Millikan, Kevin Tway, and Carly Tway; great grandchildren, Xander Postelwait, Archer Postelwait, Bryn Postelwait, June Postelwait; Deborah Whitmore and husband Mark; nephew Gordon Nichols, great nephew, Rhys Whitmore; and very close friend Tim Williams and a host of friends and family.
