Glenda Ruth Hemphill, an 87-year-old lifetime Vinita resident, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Journey Home in Bartlesville surrounded by family. She was born on March 13, 1937, in Vinita, Oklahoma to Gene and Ruth (Smith) Spaulding. She married Clifford Hemphill on March 21, 1955, in Neosho, Missouri.
Glenda worked as an operator for Southwestern Bell before she and Clifford had children. Once the children were born, she stayed at home caring for the needs of the children and home. Later, she went to work at Cinch Connectors as an assembly technician, retiring after twenty-nine years.
A member of First Baptist Church, Glenda was a faithful attender. She also taught Sunday School when she attended Calvary Baptist Church. She loved to spend time with family and tend to her flower garden. She also enjoyed traveling with family throughout the years. One of her favorite hobbies was genealogy. She enjoyed researching and keeping up with the family history records.
Glenda is survived by her two children, Larry Hemphill (Ofelia) of Elmore City, Oklahoma, and Susan Peth (Tim) of Owasso, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jesse Hemphill of Elmore City, Oklahoma, Evan Wagoner of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Rori Woody of Elmore City, Oklahoma; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; daughter, Patricia Hemphill; her brothers, Don Spaulding, and Jerry Spaulding; and her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Skip McClain officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita with Jesse Hemphill, Evan Wagoner, Robert Spaulding, Mark Spaulding, Todd Spaulding, and Carl Nall serving as casket bearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Neighbors Helping Neighbors in Glenda’s memory.
