Doris Elaine (Speer) Marsh was born on April 19, 1933 to Claire Frances (Schultz) Speer and Ira Alfred (Buck) Speer. Doris was born on a share cropper farm where she grew up with her father and four brothers. At the age of 14, Doris moved to Afton with her father and brother Glen so she could go to high school and Glen to grade school. On March 16, 1951, Doris married Charles F. Marsh and graduated from high school in May of 1951. They moved to the family farm south of Afton in 1952 where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2001 and Doris remained until the time of her death. For many years, Doris attended the Afton Methodist Church where she and Coleen King took care of the babies and children up to 6 years of age and also kept the church clean until the time of its closing. Doris was baptized in the Christian Church in Afton on February 25, 2004.
Doris was a hard worker and her jobs consisted of selling car tags at a substation in Afton, waitress at Baker's Café, dishwasher at the Afton Hospital, teller at Farmers State Bank, clerk at Buffalo Ranch Western Store, recreation associate at Shangri-La Golden Leaf and also selling drinks and food to players at the golf course. She really enjoyed meeting all of the different people while working the golf tournaments. Doris also worked for Louis's dress shop and finished out her career at the (Mansion) Jackie's on the Island where she retired in 2000. Doris was dedicated to her friends and family and provided end of life care for many of her family members. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Charles in December 2002, son Lindsey (Blaine) in May 2019, her parents, 4 brothers and great-grand girls.
Doris is survived by her daughter Claire Elizabeth (Beth) Bradshaw, son Charles, Jr. and his wife Beath (Lundy) Marsh. Her Grandchildren; Lance and Holly Marsh, Kade and Katie Thompson, Erika and Kreg Butler, Keli Whitlock and Jeff Pulis, Matt and Shelby Marsh, Buck and Katie Marsh, Erin and Brittney Marsh. Great-grandchildren; Case, Kali, Kutter, Kord, Kash, Koal, Abi, Sage, Christian, Dalton, Jay Dale, Isabella, Nathan, Ethan, Jeremiah, Jaxsen, Mecate, Paisley, Roady, Wyatt and Levi. 4 Great great-grandchildren; Ryker, Rhett, Ryder and Korbin.
Doris loved the Lord, her family, and she really loved to read.
A Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 10:00 am the Bluejacket Cemetery, in Bluejacket, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita.
