Doris Jean Nichols, 86, of Vinita, passed away at her home on November 29,2021. She was born April 24, 1935, to Cassius Clay and Vera Costie Pickett in Marietta, Oklahoma. Doris graduated from Ardmore High School in Ardmore, Oklahoma. On June 22, 1952, she married the love of her life, Jack Nichols. They made their home in Vinita and raised three daughters, Karen, Cindy, and Tammie. Doris was a member of the First Christian Church for many years and later became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vinita. Doris was very active in several civic clubs including Vinita Unlimited, which she was president of for three years, Vinnie Ream Cultural Center, member of the Vinita Community Hall of Fame, 1993 recipient of the Vinita Rotary Club’s Above and Beyond Service Award, and a Camp Fire Leader for many years. Doris enjoyed playing tennis, bridge, and decorating for many community events. Doris loved her community and enjoyed making it a better place for all. Above all she loved her family. Her husband, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and other family members all had a special place in her heart. Doris Nichols will be missed by all who knew her.
Preceding Mrs. Nichols in death are her parents, Cassius and Vera Pickett, siblings, Leona Pickett, Gladys Stinson, Isobel Pickett, W.T. Pickett, Rawlin Pickett, James Pickett, Cayalyn Montgomery, and Louise Penton.
Survivors include her husband Jack of the home, daughters, Karen Postelwait and her husband Gary, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Cindy Millikan of Vinita, Tammie Tway, and husband Bob, of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren, Jeff Postelwait, Blake Postelwait, Nicole Millikan, Kevin Tway, and Carly Tway; great grandchildren, Xander Postelwait, Archer Postelwait, Bryn Postelwait, June Postelwait; Deborah Whitmore and husband Mark; great nephew, Rhys Whitmore; many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral Services for Doris Nichols will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church of Vinita with Pastor Andrew Haire officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Vinita. The public is welcome to come by Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita and sign the register book for Mrs. Nichols.
