Dixie Lee Wood, age 88, passed away Sunday July 16 2023, in Grove OK. 

Dixie was born September 16, 1934 in Kansas City, KS to Theodore and Vivian Singleton.  Dixie graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, KS in 1952 and immediately began raising a family. 

Dixie married Eugene North Wood Jr., (North) on April 20, 1974 and moved from Kansas City to Gran Tara on Grand Lake.  Shortly after moving to Oklahoma, she entered nursing school, graduating in 1977.  After graduating from nursing school Dixie began working at Craig County General Hospital specializing in obstetrics, assisting in the delivery of countless dozens of babies.  After her career at Craig General, Dixie went to work as the school nurse for the Vinita School system where she cared for a great many of the children she helped deliver years before.  After retiring for good, Dixie continued as a volunteer in the Cleora Schools for several years. 

Dixie was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, North of 36 years, one grandchild, and one great grandchild.  She is survived by six children, Linda Harrigan of Kansas City, Diana Jones and husband Keith of Lee’s Summit, MO, Michael and Sharon Ackerson of Fayetteville, AR, Karen Biondi and husband Donald of Kansas City, MO, Sharon Maxville and husband David of Monkey Island, OK, and Brian Ackerson and wife Sue of Cleora, OK; 23 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held for Dixie at Luginbuel Funeral Chapel in Vinita, OK on Wednesday July, 19, from 3-5pm for family and from 5-7pm for friends of Dixie.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday July 20th, at 10 am at the Vinita First Church of God, Vinita, OK.  Interment to follow at McLaughlin Cemetery in Cleora, OK.
